Taste the Dust...

About four years ago six people with similar interests in Guns and Horses got together to start the
Alberta Mounted Shooters Associaton. Mounted Shooting has been in the United States for over fifteen years, but once introduced to Alberta it has been growing like wildfire!
Mounted Shooting has elements similar to barrel racing, but throw in ten balloon targets, two .45 Single Action Revolvers which are loaded with Black Powder Blanks, and then add a little speed!
How's that for an adrenaline rush?
Shooters ride a timed course of fire consisting of ten balloon targets. The balloons are split into two different colors to differentiate between sections of the course. With a pistol in hand, shooters engage in the first five balloons of the course, once shot, that gun is holstered and the second pistol is drawn. Five more balloons fall victim to the burning powder.
There are 64 patterns in total, from which three or four are drawn on the day of the shoot. Each shooter can accumulate penalty's based on targets missed, knocked over barrels, and not following the course of fire.
Mounted Shooting is an equestrian sport that promotes good horsemanship skills and the safe handling of firearms. The whole family can participate and enjoy this sport.
